The When When Jesus breathed his last darkness engulfed Jerusalem, the temple curtain was torn into.

0:32.2

Everyone recognized something unusual was happening, but the reactions were mixed.

0:37.0

We'll look at those reactions today on Truth for Life and find out why the cross, not the cradle, is the Bible's main focus.

Alistairbegg is teaching from Luke, chapter 23. The third element we might simply refer to as the grand finale because that is surely

0:58.7

what it is a total blackout theism, and a grand finale, Jesus, verse 46, called out with a loud voice.

1:10.0

Now you will notice that each of the gospel writers make something of this and of course they should because

1:15.2

crucifixion was routinely a long gradual loss of strength and consciousness. Whatever strength the victim may have had in the

initial moments of their pain, if they had breath in the early hours to hurl abuse at their captors, to shout down from the cross to engage in

out with a whimper, but he's going out in full possession of his faculties. And at the same way that we engage in routine things that are part

2:36.1

and parcel of our everyday lives and we are able to go through most of them without really

2:41.6

paying a tremendous amount of attention

2:43.6

because they're so routine to us, so these soldiers would be going about their business.

2:49.1

And then in the midst of it all, this loud cry. How unsettling it must have been for the Centurion.

2:58.0

Well, what was that? That doesn't happen? When he went home for his tea in the evening.

3:08.8

How was your day? Well, staggering today. Of course we had the blackout, yes as his wife I was out with our

3:18.0

girl and she was inquiring and I had no answer. Well he said I'm not sure I have an
