On July 3rd, 1974, at around 8.04pm, police rushed to the home of Walter Allinson, a prominent

attorney, and his wife Carolyn, in East Point, an upscale surburb near Atlanta, Georgia.

They're responding to a report that shots had been fired.

And one of the officers who got that call, Sergeant Callahan, was confused because he knew

that police had gone to that house just a couple of hours earlier.

On that first visit, Walter had told police that someone had stolen a shotgun.

He said that he knew that it was his son, 31-year-old Tom Allinson.

Now Walter and Tom Allinson had been feuding for a while.

Lately, things have been escalating.

A lot of this was due to the fact that Walter and Carolyn hated Tom's new wife, Pat Allinson.

Not afternoon, Walter had come home with his wife and their former daughter-in-law, Tom's

ex-wife, and their two children.

Walter saw that the electricity had been shut off, the phone lines had been cut, and his

20-gauge shotgun was missing.

When the officer responded, he offered to search the house, but Walter said it was fine,

he had things under control, and he could handle the situation himself.

Now something that looked like, it started out as a family drama, had turned into a double

One of the officers walked slowly down into the dark basement and found Carolyn's body
