0:21.5	So the question is, what is the most deadly bacterial disease in the world?
0:26.1	Well, it is the mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes the disease tuberculosis or TB.
0:34.2	Now tuberculosis is very, very interesting.

0:38.4	It killed 1,800,000 people every single year worldwide.
0:44.8	That is incredible, but what's more incredible is I found out that the 25% of the population
0:50.8	has been infected with TB, but not in its active form, okay, in its dormant or latent form.
0:59.2	So there's two forms of TB.
1:00.9	You have the active infection, and then you have like an infection that's in remission
1:06.3	or it's called latent, and it kind of sits there.
1:08.9	And it doesn't actually cause any symptoms at all, and it's not even infectious.
1:12.7	You can't spread TB when it's dormant or when it's latent.
1:16.4	Now, this is what you need to know.
1:18.3	Not a large percent of TB is active, okay?
1:23.3	Like 90% is latent, and only 5% to 10% becomes active, but the problem with this is that 50%
1:33.3	of people with an active infection that are not treated actually die.
1:38.0	So it is very, very deadly, but my question of course is, what about the other 50%?
1:43.4	Why do they live?
1:45.4	What do they have special about them that helps them survive?
1:49.6	Well, it's something that I couldn't really find a lot of information on.
