God's story series. We're in chapter 24, looking at what's called the Davidic covenant.

We'll be looking at 1st Samuel chapter 7, so get out your Bibles. Before we do, though, I want to ask you to pray with me so that we can put our reliance where it needs to be on God as our teacher.

So, Father, that's exactly what we're asking, is that you would be our teacher.

Show us what you are doing here in 2nd Samuel chapter 7 when you made this promise to David. We ask you

to give us wisdom and vision to understand your heart. We ask in Jesus' name, amen. All right,

friends, 2nd Samuel chapter 7, beginning of verse number 12 is where we're going to look. This is God

speaking to David. Back in the time when David had become

king. And he says, when your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, okay, so stop for a

moment. He's telling David, when you die, all of this I'm about to say is going to take place.

So when your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your

fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish

his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom

forever. Now, who is this God is talking about? This is David's son Solomon we know is the one who builds the temple.

And picking up again in verse 14, I will be to him a father and he shall be to me a son.

When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men.

But my steadfast love will not depart from him,

as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. And here's what we really want to hone in on.

Verse number 16, and your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever. Now this is what we,

as theologians of Bible scholars call it the Davidic covenant, David's covenant. It's a promise God

made to David. Now it has to do with his immediate son, Solomon, but it also has to do with
