This is the BBC.

It's become a bit of a cliche,

uttered from the mouths of comfortable,

middle-aged, middle-class,

establishment people.

People like me, you might say,

that there is too much anger in modern politics,

and yet real rage, real anger,

real passion,

sometimes sets politics a light.

This is a day of national shame,

and it has come about because of a hostile environment,

policy that was begun under her Prime Minister.

Let us call it as it is.

If you lay down with dogs, you get fleas,

and that is what has happened

with this far-right rhetoric in this country.

You may just have heard me say on this podcast before,

that if you really want to understand

what makes a politician tick,

you need to ask them

what makes them angry.
