Summary

This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!

Few places in America hold as much tragedy—or supernatural energy—as the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Standing in Weston, West Virginia, this massive 19th-century institution has witnessed it all: Civil War raids, rumored Confederate gold robberies, and decades of misunderstood mental health treatment that left deep emotional scars on both patients and staff.

Brandi Butcher, Paranormal Event Manager at the asylum, guides listeners through its dark and fascinating history. From shadow figures in patient wards to unexplained voices echoing through abandoned corridors, every inch of the building seems alive with echoes of the past.

After more than 160 years, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum remains one of America’s most haunted locations—a place where history refuses to fade, and the spirits still remember their time within its walls.

Now, first, I want to get right to the name of this building, Trans-Alegany Lunatic Asylum. People might be offended by that.

1:05.8

But that is the original name of the building.

1:08.7

Absolutely. And that is, there is a lot of controversy with it, but one of our main goals is to educate, you know,

future generations about the brutal history of the past.

1:19.8

And that was the historic name.

So that's why we did adopt it when we opened up for tourism and education.
