Summary

Donald Trump just erupted at MAGA allies for opposing his war. In one tirade, he attacked Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly and others as “FAKE MAGA.” In another, he slammed them as “Low IQ.” Similarly, his pollster, John McLaughlin, claimed the MAGA base “doesn’t consider” those critics “conservative” anymore. So disagreeing with Trump intrinsically makes you non-MAGA? This reveals Trump believes MAGA is whatever he says it is at any given moment—that Trump and his pollster really do view MAGA as a cult. We’ve written about this dynamic before, but decided it was worth a pod episode. So we talked to New Republic staff writer Perry Bacon, author of a great piece on Trump and the global right. We discuss why Trump’s international and domestic allies are deserting him, how his excommunication of top MAGA figures is shrinking the movement, why Trump believes he can control the minds of his voters, and why all this could hurt GOP chances of holding the Senate.  Looking for More from the DSR Network? the fracturing of his coalition, and the tenuousness of MAGA's future as it keeps throwing out

big voices. We're talking about all of it with New

So Donald Trump exploded in self-pity and megalomania on truth social, and this one had something

special. He said this, quote,

I have among the best poll numbers I have ever had and why shouldn't I? All the country does is

1:33.8

when, close quote. Then Trump attacked MAGA critics this way. Quote, I hear Megan Kelly, Tucker

1:40.8

Carlson, and Candace Owens are fading fast. Their numbers are terrible. They were fake

1:46.6

MAGA and now they've been exposed. Perry, we used to joke that MAGA is whatever Trump says it is,

1:53.6

but here he's making that like really clear anyone who dares to criticize him as fake MAGA.

1:58.7

What do you make of that? I mean, very explicit. As you said, we've been talking about whether MAGA is a movement

2:05.9

or an ideology or something else or just Donald Trump. And, you know, I've written and used
