So it's finally happened.

We don't have to sit here and talk about it or think about it or ask why the Cubs haven't called up Matt Mervis yet. Eric Hosmer has been designated for assignment. And according

to some in the media, one article I read today said that this could be the last we see of

Eric Hosmer in Major League Baseball. Now that might be an overreaction, but Eric Hosmer has not

played well in about five years,

and now with his contract being up and nobody wanting him, it could be coming to an end,

unless he's willing to take a minor league deal elsewhere. Osmer, this season for the Cubs,

only played in 31 games, got 100 plate appearances, and hit to 34. OPS Plus of 68, one of the

worst in baseball.

Last year was 77, with the Red Sox, 107 overall.

The last time Hosmer was, well, let's say amazing, was back in 2017.

And for those who don't remember or don't know about the Eric Hosmer story,

debuted out in KC, Kansas City Royals, and had a couple of up and down years. His rookie year was electric. 293 batting average 19 homers, 128 games. I remember when he debuted.

And slowly but surely had Eric Hosmer kept on the pace in which he did with Kansas City

when he got to San Diego and now Chicago, he could have been a borderline Hall of Fame candidate.

Even at this point, 33 years old, almost 1,800 hits.

I mean, he was on pace to kind of get to 3,000 if he played his cards right.
