Summary

How did Jesus go from the joys of Palm Sunday to the sorrows of Good Friday? Dr. Sri delves into the pivotal events leading to Jesus' death, examining the dramatic shift in the way the Jewish people and leaders perceived him. He explains how Jesus' radical ministry, particularly seen in his cleansing of the temple, led the Jewish leaders to plot against him.

Snippet from the Show

During the cleansing of the temple, Jesus reminds the Jewish people that he came to save everyone—sinners, tax collectors, lepers, the poor, and Gentiles alike.

Hi, I'm Edwards Sari and welcome to all things Catholic, where real faith meets real life.

0:11.0

Today, I want to take a closer look at the last days of Jesus' life and ask an important question.

0:19.0

How did Jesus get from the joys of Palm Sunday to the

0:22.7

sorrows of Good Friday? Have you ever wondered about that? I mean, think about it. On Palm Sunday,

0:27.3

the people are welcoming Jesus so warmly. They receive him as a king. And then a few days later,

0:32.9

the same Jesus is accused of blasphemy. On Palm Sunday, the people are welcoming him with their palm

branches waving and they're laying their garments before him, like they're rolling out a royal

0:43.0

carpet before him. They're treating him as a king. And then a few days later, he's condemned to death.

On Palm Sunday, the crowds are singing Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

0:56.0

Son of David is a royal title. It's associated with the hopes for the Messiah, the prophesied one.

1:01.6

They're saying, this is our king. He's our Messiah. And then a few days later, the crowds are shouting

1:06.5

out, crucify him, crucify him? What happened? What changed?

1:10.9

How did everything turn upside down and so quickly?

1:13.7

Well, did you know that the catechism of the Catholic Church actually offers a lot of

1:18.7

insight into these last days of Jesus' life and sheds a lot of light on why is it that

1:24.7

the Jewish leaders moved now?

1:26.8

Why right now and why so vehemently to bring Jesus

1:30.6

to his death? Do you know the one key event between Palm Sunday and Good Friday that probably

1:37.0

changed everything more than anything else for Jesus' ministry and why the leaders brought him to

1:42.4

his death at this moment? Well, that's what we're going to take a look at in this week's podcast. So welcome to all things Catholic. I'm your host,

1:48.7

Edward Sree. And, you know, as we're thinking about the climax of our faith right here, the climax of

1:53.9

the church's year when we think about Jesus' death and resurrection and Holy Week, I'm reminded of how I think many Catholics have what I'd like to call a humpty-dumpty
