Darryl Mori, the GM of the Houston Rockets, the brilliant, well-regarded GM,

was traveling with his team for a preseason game in Japan.

He tweeted,

Fight for Freedom, stand with Hong Kong.

So sensible a stance as to almost be not a stance.

It's an acknowledgement of a basic truth.

Hong Kong and the residents there in want freedoms, kind of close to the freedoms Americans have,

freedoms like speech, assembly, self-determination, fair trials, due process.

And they are scared because Hong Kong's in this liminal state is part of China,

but also an administrative state that has, of course, British history,

which is to say, a liberal history and institutions.

Again, if I told you, or if you told me, or anyone who follows the NBA,
