It was a big issue early in our marriage. We didn't have any and you and I disagreed on every single thing financially. So you have a question. I do. It says my fiance and are getting married in a few months and are starting to talk about how we will handle our money. What is your most important advice for us?

0:42.0

We're doing the right thing in talking before you get married. That's a big deal. Yeah. My book The Four Laws of Love. This is an example of preparing for marriage. But one of the chapters in this book is on financial intimacy and partnership. The most important thing about handling your money when you're married is learning to do it as a couple. Now Karen and I had tremendous problems early in our marriage because we see money differently and I talk about that in the book.

And so my book Four Laws of Love also my book marriage and rock both talk about money but they're Dave Ramsey there are financial experts out there that have financial books that you can read and the more help you get the better off it is. But the main thing is to do it as a couple to do as a partnership. Don't let money separate you. Let money bring you together. And if you learn to manage it together and make your decisions together. That's what happens. You end up having financial intimacy. That's good.

Okay. This is for you Karen. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to money. I have never managed it well. And it's hard for me to talk to my husband about it. I want to glorify God with our finances, but money has always been a negative thing for me. How do I deal with this?

1:56.0

That's a good question. I know I can speak out of my own self. Money was an anxiety for me, but not having it and savings was an anxiety. And so she probably needs to pinpoint exactly what she means by money being and making her anxious. Is she fearful of not having? Is she fearful of, you know, there's a reason that she gets worried about it. She doesn't trust God to provide.

2:19.0

And there's so many things in our life that we have to take the bigger picture of what this little thing sounds like, but it might be bigger than that, that does she trust God.

2:29.0

And I know I was telling a friend recently about in Hebrews 13 where God says, I'll never leave you for say you and I'll always provide for you.

2:38.0

And the word of God is very clear about God owns everything and everything belongs to him.

2:45.0

And when we start trusting God in that area of if it if it's God, then I can trust he's going to provide and I don't have to worry. And so probably she's worrying about other things to besides money.

2:58.0

And so, but I think that it's she really love her heart that she wants to glorify God and that, you know, what we did is, you know, we started tithing.

3:07.0

You know, I just would read the word of God and word of God says give a 10th and I said, okay, we need to give a 10th. I never question it.

3:14.0

But in giving it releases things back to God where he can pour back into us and the needs that we have.

3:21.0

And so, I don't know, I just think that it's it's hopeful.

3:25.0

When you started giving it terrified me, I had it did. I had no faith in giving. I relate to this. I relate to her.

3:32.0

I came out of a poor family. We didn't have money. And I literally had a poverty spirit. I never felt like I'd have a lot of money.

3:42.0

The concept of giving was just bizarre to me. I thought it was the craziest thing I've ever heard in my life. You started giving.

3:49.0

It was your faith, not my faith. And then I saw God begin to do miracles in our lives. And then I realized he is our father.

3:58.0

And he loves us and he takes care of us. And that's what dealt with my financial fears. And so exactly what you said, Karen, to this woman, I think that dealing with your own financial fears and your concept of God, which is huge.

4:11.0

Now, you had a faith for money that I didn't have. And you came out of a wealthy family, but you didn't value money. You weren't into money.

4:22.0

No, I always said I could live in a shack and it'd be okay.

4:26.0

Well, you had a great healthy concept of money more than me, but I do agree with everything you just said. You just have to learn to trust God.
