The Savvy Painter Podcast is the podcast for artists who want practical tactical tips to create and practice that is both fulfilling and meaningful.

So in this episode, I want to talk today about something that we haven't talked about directly,

but it affects so many of us artists.

I know I've talked a lot on this podcast about failure and about the different kind of fears that we have,

or whether or not we're really that talented, or whether or not we're allowed to paint what we

want to paint, fears like that. But what I want to talk about today that affects so many of us

is just waiting. And more specifically, the cost of waiting. Because most people think that waiting is neutral,

like nothing is happening yet. And so it's just this kind of limbo and it doesn't really mean anything.

But that's not actually true. Waiting has a cost and that cost is not always obvious. I see this all the time with artists who are

clearly capable. They have skills. They understand what they're doing. They may not know everything

that they think that they need to know about being an artist and what they need to do when and all of these things,

but they have a general idea.

And yet they still will just kind of set things aside, not make decisions, delay making decisions, things like that.

So if you've ever felt like you're thinking a lot about

your work, like you're planning a lot, you're learning a lot, but somehow you're still not moving

or taking action in the way that you want to, this episode is for you. And if this is you, I want to tell you

that nothing has gone wrong. And just to say this up front, this episode is not about giving

you a guilt trip or wagging my finger at you with a like get your act together type of episode.

What I'd like to offer you today is a way to

see this idea clearly so that you can decide what you want to do with that clarity.
