A few years ago, I was talking to a friend of mine, and he'd been working in a family

business, and we were talking about he had left the family business, and in those years

since then, he's done very well for himself, but he probably doesn't make as much money

as he was making, working at the family business.

But it was straining his relationship with his parents because they were not able to

be parents to him or grandparents to his children because they couldn't help themselves.

They treated him like an employee, even though he had increasingly grown to be a leader

in the organization.

And he was talking about, I said, well, how did it go when you left working for your dad?

And he said, he didn't like it.

I said, why didn't you like it?

He said, well, he lost control.

And I made the comment to him, however much control of your life he lost is exactly

how much control of your life you gained.

To zero some game.

So the bad news is he feels bad.

He doesn't get to control your life anymore.

Good news is you have what's called freedom.

You are a self-actuated, self-directed person, and most people are not.

Most people, whether of their own making or the actual rules of their organization, are

slaves to where they were, slaves to their fears, slaves to society if they're rich, slaves
