I think we often forget to be grateful for those things like continuity and stability and reliability

because those people who control the cultural markers, musicians, movie stars, politicians,

those people flame out. They would rather one great evening, one shining moment.

But if you notice, they're very rarely there for their children to put them to bed and wake

them up, to take them to the hospital in the middle of the night, to fix a boo-boo, to coach the kids

team, to bring brownies for the kids at school, to assist with what needs to be done to get into

college or to drive them here and there. Those are not things that the people who write movies or

sing songs pay close attention to because they're not that personality type. We have different

personality types and the artist type does not as the artist types like to write songs about

themselves and the movie makers like to make movies about the types of people they identify with.

So we celebrate these famous people who did this great thing at a moment and then the people

who actually keep the trains run and keep the families going are people who consider themselves

too boring to be worthy of a movie. But frankly, you'd much rather that than the fame and the

fleeting glory of the person pursuing the public life versus mom and grandma who's just there

for you day in day. That's a whole lot harder too, by the way.
