You thought the Velshi Band Book Club was over for the season. Not so fast. We just couldn't stay away.

We featured so many books that honor all different

kinds of Americans that it is only fitting to end this season of the Velshi Ban Book Club with

a document that affects every single one of us.

Today on the Velshi Ban Book Club we're featuring a work that has sparked ferocious

and unrelenting debate since it was first written.

A work of writing that has been quoted and misquoted for generations.

A work of writing that has been challenged for removal not by Florida or Texas, but by a former U.S. President.

A work of writing at once beautiful and the most weaponized

in our nation's history, a work of writing that proves how powerful words can be. I'm talking

about our United States Constitution. Pended in 1787 in the same Philadelphia building in which the Declaration of Independence

was written, known today as Independence Hall, the U.S. Constitution lays out the framework

and constraints for our government. The Bill of Rights was then ratified in 1791, a document created after

some signatories voiced the need for a clear description of individual rights. Since then,

more than 10,000 amendments to the Constitution have been introduced to Congress, but just 27 have received the necessary

approvals to be ratified, including such critical amendments as the 13th, which abolished

slavery, and the 19th, which granted women the right to vote. Just one has been repealed

in the nation's history, the 18th Amendment, which established the prohibition

of alcohol. It was made officially null and void by the 21st Amendment. After years of history

lessons and episodes of Schoolhouse Rock, it's easy to forget that the Constitution

was nothing short of an audacious act of political radicalism in its time.

Hardly any written constitution existed at the time for the founding fathers to study.
