So, here's the thing. The Constitution isn't working for black people.

I know that sounds dramatic, but it's also just the truth.

This document gets treated like holy scripture in the United States, but when you actually

look at how it functions in practice, it's a hot mess.

The people who wrote it didn't see us as human beings,

and yet their words are still being used to decide who gets freedom, who gets rights,

and who gets left out. For black folks, the Constitution has rarely been a shield. More often,

it's been a weapon, one wielded to uphold slavery, justify segregation, gut voting rights,

and hand power back to the same rich white men who were running things in the first place.

Sure, there have been moments when courts expanded rights, but those moments are the exception,

not the rule. That's why today I'm talking to Ellie Mistal, who has been saying the quiet part out loud,

that the Constitution isn't sacred, it isn't fair, and maybe, just maybe, it's trash.
