Hey folks, this is

this is Jemar Tisbee co-host of the podcast Past the Mike and guess what we have a very

special episode for you this time it's actually not an episode it's chapter one

of my first book called The Color of Compromise the Truth

about the American Church's complicity in racism and from the moment I announced that I was

writing this book people have asked me,

is there going to be an audio book?

And then more people came along and asked,

am I going to be the one to read it?

So after, you know, maybe the 10th or 11th request I was like okay let me check into this.

Apparently it's not something they typically do or do with every author to have them read their own book

but I guess since I post a podcast and folks are used to listening to my voice, they thought it would be kind of nice if I read my own book. But it's not as simple a process as you would think. You think, oh, hey, he can read the book. Well, not exactly. I actually

had to kind of audition for it. So I had to send an audio sample into the publisher and the producer and they had to give the okay

just to make sure I did not sound like a robot when I read the audio book or

something like that. There have actually been cases of the producer I worked with told me about one time a guy was

self-publishing tried to do an audio book just couldn't read it in an audio book format it's just very different

so anyway I went to Atlanta, spent three days there,

recording for four to six, about four hours a day actually, maybe five with breaks,

but it was a physically exhausting experience. I became a tea

drinker as a result of that. Lots of lemon, lots of throat lozenges, lots of
