with you today at the editor's desk. I'd like to welcome Father Sam Conadera to the editor's desk, our regular podcast at her here at First Things.

And we're going to talk about his review of the Oxford Handbook of Joseph Ratzinger in the May 26th issue.

So let's start with the man.

So Father Sam, what, who was Joseph Rotsinger?

A big question.

Obviously, the editors of the volume spent a lot of time on that matter.

I can say a little bit about who he was for me growing up in the 90s.

And as a young man, wanting to become a serious Catholic and eventually a priest,

John Paul II and Radzinger had a great impact on me.

And I remember the day that he was elected Pope,

I was late for German class.

And someone sent me a text to the effect that he had been elected pope. And when I arrived to class,

I yelled out in German that we have a German pope, but no one else seemed to care very much.
