Summary

Friends, this year, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul falls on a Sunday, and I want to spend some time reflecting especially on Saint Peter. Around the year 64, Shimon Bar Yonah, a fisherman from Galilee, was put to death brutally in the Circus of Nero. But while the Roman Empire is long gone and the successor of Nero doesn’t exist, the empire of this fisherman, Peter the Apostle, is everywhere, and in May, his 266th successor walked out onto the loggia of Saint Peter’s Basilica, built over the very spot where he was buried.

0:43.5	Saints Peter and Paul, June the 29th, falls on a Sunday. So we have a chance to meditate on these
0:49.4	two great saints, these pivotal saints in our church. And I've been thinking a lot about Peter and Paul because as I record these words, you know,
0:57.6	just a few, what, 10 days ago, I was in Rome.
1:01.8	I was doing some network coverage for the papal conclave and spent a lot of time in Rome
1:08.2	and kind of moving around because 12 years ago I was there doing coverage for just NBC News.
1:15.0	I was under contract with them.
1:16.5	This year, I was kind of a freelancer.
1:18.7	I was going from, you know, pillar to post and station to station.
1:22.1	So I was kind of moving around Rome quite a bit.
1:26.2	And you can't move around Rome without noticing all these monuments of the ancient Roman Empire.
1:34.6	So, for example, there's a spot called the Largo Argentina, not a well-known spot, but boy, an important one,
1:40.4	because that was the place where Julius Caesar was assassinated, stabbed to death by the senators of Rome in 44 BC.
1:51.0	It's the ruins actually of the theater Pompeii.
1:54.0	The Senate, I think, was under construction or something, and so they moved it to the theater of Pompeii,
