And now, today, if you asked the average younger person to identify these institutions,

these organizations, they wouldn't have a slightest idea of what you're talking about.

And most people out there, beyond the church, walls think evangelical means basically the

right-wing Republicans at prayer, has no religious significance at all.

So how does that contribute also to the difficulty of evangelical Christians to connect with non-Christians,

especially younger generations when it comes to just talking about their faith?

It's feeling like maybe even using the term evangelical is more harm than good.

There is a sort of generational and technological aspect to how this was built out of.

Again, the boomers and previous generations, they were very institution-oriented.

They created institutions, they built institutions, they staffed institutions.

They were masters of things like public speaking and writing books.

You have a guy like Rick Warren and Purpose Driven Life,

that sold something like 30 million copies.

And this is one more of the Gen X.

This is where they were sort of the transition to a Gen X.

When the internet came along, guys like Mark Driscoll,

were really able to exploit internet technologies and podcasting

to start building huge audiences through a different mechanism

than the older people did.

Then if you go a generation beyond to the Millennials in Gen Z,

it's very social media-mediated,

and it's very influencer-driven.
