Summary

Grief is a human emotion and and affects each of us at one time or another.

The Catholic Church in all her wisdom offers us this beautiful prayer in the rite of Christian burial:

"Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.”

Continuing on the theme of death and grief, today, Fr. Mike offers a word of hope and encouragement to anyone who is grieving. Our grief as Christians should look different. We are called to grieve not like the rest.

0:11.2	So recently, I was talking with some people who we had all kind of lost at someone.
0:14.9	We had all had someone's death in our lives.
0:17.6	And some of the people I was talking with were all Christians, were all Catholics.
0:22.1	Some of the people I was talking with, they kind of shared that.
0:24.7	They kind of felt badly for feeling badly.
0:27.4	They were feeling badly guilty for being sad, as if being sad is the wrong response to death.
0:34.4	They were saying, yeah, but I should be happy for them.
0:36.3	I know that they're with the Lord.
0:37.9	That's a good thing.
0:38.6	Like, okay, yeah, that is a good thing.
0:40.1	But your emotions aren't right or wrong.
0:44.0	There's no such thing as right or wrong emotions.
0:46.2	You know, that's the powerful thing about death.
0:48.1	That's the powerful thing about suffering or loss.
0:50.5	Is it revealed something or reveals our hearts?
0:53.1	It can reveal a depth of strength that you maybe you didn't know you had.
0:57.6	It can reveal a compassion or a patience, a sensitivity to other people that maybe you
1:01.6	didn't realize you had.
1:02.4	It can reveal wounds that you didn't realize that you had.
