Summary

It’s easy to look at God and wonder if he’s holding out on us. With so much going on we can feel overlooked. It’s important to remember that the power of faithfulness is in the day-to-day moments.

The story of David is a great reminder, that we are all chosen by God, maybe just not right now in the way we want. You have been chosen by God to do a powerful thing, but you must be faithful with what you’ve been given now so that you can be trusted later.

Out of 1 Samuel 17:17-19 Pastor Joe Smith tells us about the story of David. David was teaching us how faithfulness is an important aspect of who we become. He reminds us it’s not who you are when you get what you want, it’s who you are when you could be doing other things but you choose to do the hard things. God wants to teach us to serve but our heart posture must be right. We can elevate our roles by taking responsibility, not so we can think more highly of ourselves, but so we can serve others.

God used David’s faithfulness to bring him to greatness. The thing that positions us most powerfully, is our commitment to faithfulness. David is a great example of living a life where nothing is beneath you.

“The path towards your greatest future will always be paved by your service.”

–Joe Smith

0:42.3

important for what we're going through in the world right now and I really believe that today

0:47.2

for a lot of us can be exactly the conversation that God has been trying to have with us that if we will be open

0:55.4

to what he has to say, it can change everything in our lives.

See, I've just been wrestling recently with this idea of what it looks like to be chosen by God.

1:06.0

When you think about that, even verbiage of that there's a God who would choose us to be in relationship with, there's a God who would choose us to be in relationship with.

1:13.9

There's a God who would choose us to do things bigger than ourselves.

1:17.3

That there's this choosing that happens

1:20.1

when we are in relationship to God that is maybe one of the most important choices you can ever make in your life.

And for me a lot of this conversation is wrapped around sports and I grew up playing sports and there were seasons in my life where I was really good and there were seasons in my life where I was not very good.

1:40.0

But what is common in all of it is that when you play sports,

1:44.3

you just desperately want to be chosen.

1:47.0

You want to be seen.

1:47.9

You want to be on that team that you know is going to win,

1:50.8

and it doesn't always work out that way and I remember even recently we were playing

1:56.1

flag football as a group of friends and it came that time where the captains were choosing teams and they started picking players and they picked one person and then another and another and all these people are getting chosen and I'm just thinking like I don't think I have an injury. I don't know why I'm not being picked and everyone's being chosen and then finally they get to me a little bit later than I would have thought and my my first thought was even like, I can't even get like a pastor, like sympathy vote.
