0:50.0	The path into writing and journalism, what was that path for you?
0:54.0	Yeah, you know that's a great question. You know when I was younger I was interested in
0:58.9	two things, history in general but you know, aggressive actors in history, you know, going all the way
1:06.4	back to Roman history to World War II to the Cold War.
1:10.0	So I was interested in that.
1:11.0	I was also interested in our leaders and why they sometimes made bad decisions.
1:15.5	Sometimes they're just stupid, but oftentimes there are other explanations that can be corruption,
1:21.4	some other mitigating factors.
1:23.4	So I enjoyed studying those things.
1:26.2	I went to graduate school at Oxford and I wrote my master's thesis on the three
1:31.5	revolutions in Soviet military affairs. And then the Wow because I wanted to be I wanted to be an analyst at the CIA I wanted to kind of be you know like like the old Tom Clancy Jack Ryan not the new action hero one
1:49.4	So I had to have a shift so I wanted to apply it to journalism and investigative stuff.
1:54.3	So I started looking at these corruption issues and that kind of led me to where I am now.
2:00.6	And you know I've got a guy who does fact-checking me who's a former Air Force pilot, very detail-oriented.
