Chauvin is on trial for the murder and manslaughter of George Floyd.

Can you get a fair trial?

You'll hear why I have some doubts about that on the der show.

This morning in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the trial of the century begins.

Why do I say the trial of the century?

Because the killing of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer

has been the most consequential crime by an individual in since the beginning of the century.

Perhaps the invasion of the capital will qualify as an even more significant to crime,

but it's a different kind of crime.

Here we have one single police officer having arguably,

and this will be a disputed issue,

caused the death of a single African-American person,

resulting in hundreds of millions of people watching the video,

seeing the video, and being outraged and starting movements all over the world

for social justice, for racial equality.

And it's hard to come up with a more consequential event tied to an alleged crime

than that event in Minneapolis less than a year ago.

Perhaps when the people who invaded the capital and rioted in the capital were put on trial,

that will qualify as the trial of the century.

But as of now, I think the trial beginning today,

meets that criteria now.
