On Monday October 11, 1999,

page 3 of the Philadelphia Daily News featured a composite sketch of a young man under the headline

Let's Catch Him. The sketch was framed with the words wanted $25,000 reward.

I remember that image from 20 years ago and I remember thinking, Jesus, this

guy could be anybody. The man in the hand-drawn picture looked anywhere between

18 and maybe 30 years old.

He had short dark hair with bangs that flopped over either side of his forehead.

His race was indiscernible, his ethnicity could have been anything.

To me, the face on the wanted poster

looked like any young Italian man in Philly with a wide bridge nose and olive skin.

Next to this image was a story about the Center City rapist and the possibility he

attacked his seventh victim in two years. According to then Philadelphia

police commissioner John Timony, there were reasons to attribute this

attack to the man who was known as the

Center City rapist. The physical description of the assailant matched the

appearance of the man who'd assaulted women in and around the

Rittenhouse Square neighborhood of Center City between 1997 and 1999.
