Summary

On October 16th, 1920 the body of a missing bank employee is discovered within New Jersey’s sprawling pine barrens. His clothes are all wet, despite being some distance from the nearest stream, and he’s been robbed of over $40,000 in cash. Strangest of all his body seems to have been somehow…pickled. This is a case for Detective Ellis H Parker, often credited as being “America’s Sherlock Holmes.” Parker will need all his considerable deductive skills, forensic expertise, and natural intuition to solve a mystery that unfolds in the heart of Prohibition-era America. 0:00.0	It's early on October 16th, 1920, in the Pine Barrens, the sprawling forested area that stretches across seven counties of New Jersey State.
0:20.0	Surrounded by towering trees,
0:22.6	four duck hunters stalked through a misty terrain of swamp land,
0:27.6	just north of Camden County.
0:30.6	It's the first day of hunting season,
0:33.6	and these men have been blowing their wooden whistles down by a stream, trying to lure the birds out.
0:43.3	So far, they've had no luck attracting prey, feeling that this area is just too fallow.
0:50.3	They head further northwards through the woodland, crossing into Burlington County.
0:57.8	Close by is a stream there, known as Bread and Cheese Creek, which they hope will prove to be a better
1:05.4	hunting ground. To cause less noise, the hunters separate from one another.
1:11.6	Moving through to drier ground, one hunter watches his footing, trying hard not to trip.
1:20.6	The mist is especially thick here, and the ground can be treacherous.

1:34.3	For as long as anyone can remember, these woods have inspired frightening myths.
