So your story, you grew up in Hawaii before leaving for college on the mainland.

What do you remember as your idea of the American dream growing up?

Well, it's kind of funny.

When I was born, Hawaii was not yet a state.

It became a state on my first birthday.

It was still in territories.

It was kind of interesting.

The 50th state basically emerged back then in the late 50s.

And so obviously, well, I was young, but as they got a little bit older,

it was just America was about possibility,
