For months, what happened aboard the Carnival Horizon

stayed hidden until now. A teenage girl, Anna Kepner, found dead just feet from where her family

slept, her stepbrother, now indicted as an adult, facing charges tied to her death and allegations

of sexual abuse.

As federal prosecutors take over a case that unfolded in international waters, we're asking

the questions that still don't have answers. How did this happen? And why is the accused

still walking free? Joining me today to unpack the complex jurisdiction of international waters,

the shocking new forensic revelations, and the high stakes battle over pretrial release is attorney

and legal expert, Darlene Gomez. Darling, thank you so much for joining me to talk about

this case. I know you have a lot of experience in these types of cases.

Here, the latest developments, now we know the stepbrother of Anna Kepner. He's now been charged

as an adult. He was indicted on first degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse and now has

been transferred to the adult system originally in the juvenile system.

Explain that for our listeners and how that would come about, especially in federal court.

It's really interesting because in federal court, the type of information that people on the

outside get is very minimal. So if a child is under the age of 18, generally they are charged as a youthful offender

under the Juvenile Crimes Act. And so basically at that point, everything is sealed. So you have

no indication of what the indictment is. You have no indication of anything, any type of witnesses.

The FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office keeps everything very tight-lipped.
