Chapter 1 - "Diagnosis Day"

In this journal entry, we welcomed Bruce McIntyre and Roberta Carson who shared their experiences from their "Diagnosis Day".

Bruce McIntyre:

Bruce is the author of Receiving Peace, Thrive Anyway, Parkinson Positive, Graceful Transitions and Resilient Life. He serves as the CEO of the Oklahoma Parkinson’s Alliance. Bruce shares his expert guidance and warm humor with thousands of people each year. As a caregiver for his wife since 2004, Bruce understands the world of chronic illness and caregiving.

Roberta Carson:

After the death of her teenage son from brain cancer, Roberta started The ZaggoCare System, a nonprofit organization, to provide information and tools to help others better manage illnesses and injuries. 1:03.1	listeners about who you are in your experiences and I'll start with Roberta Carson.
1:07.4	Roberta, thank you so much for being here today. Thank you for having me. My
1:11.6	caregiving started when my 17-year-old son
1:14.6	was diagnosed with the terminal brain tumor
1:17.1	and I cared for him for 27 months
1:20.6	until he sadly passed. It was a very overwhelming stressful situation and I am using
1:30.0	that experience to help other patients and family caregivers better navigate their own injuries and illnesses.
1:38.0	Thank you, Roberta, for being here today.
1:41.0	Mr. Bruce McIntyre.
1:42.0	Yeah, my name is Bruce McIntyre.
1:44.0	I'm the primary caregiver for my wife.
1:47.0	I have been for 20 years.
1:49.0	She lives with dermatomyositis, which is a rare disease. Some of our desire out of just
1:56.2	struggling through and figuring it out has turned into five books that I've
2:01.5	written and she speaks with me on that sometimes and also along the way I was
2:06.2	volunteering and wound up being the CEO of the Oklahoma Parkinson's Alliance which has worked that I love serving patients and
2:17.2	caregivers and so glad to be here today. We're glad to have you thank you Bruce.
