Aline Smithson is a fine-art photographer whose work has been exhibited widely in exhibitions in venues such as the Griffin Museum of Photography, the Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art, Lishui Festival in China and the Tagomago in Barcelona and Paris. Her images have also been published in PDN (Photo District News), Communication Arts Photo Annual, Lenswork Extended and Silvershotz magazines. In 2012, Aline received the Rising Star Award through the Griffin Museum of Photography for her contributions to the photographic community. Though I've gone to my share of galleries and museum exhibits that revolve around photography.

I have to admit that I'm not as familiar with the world of fine art photography as I probably should be.

But it's still an interesting world.

And I got a email from someone recently who invited me to start interviewing some more people who are more involved in the finite world than

the photographers that I've interviewed in the past.

And today's guest, Aline Smithson, is a photographer who knows something about that.

I had the opportunity to meet her a little less than a year ago at an event at the Julian Dean

workshop where I saw some of her students who were there sharing their images, their portfolios, their collection of images, books they had created, in a class in which Elaine helps photographers sort of develop not only a selection of images that they can shop around to different galleries and curators, but also train them in the ability to be able to talk and discuss their work in a real intelligent and insightful manner.

And actually, I met these photographers before I had a chance to talk to Aline.

And I was really impressed by the way that the students were able to really share their work and talk about it.

And once I found out they had all taken her class, I wanted to sit down and talk to her.

So ever since then, I knew that I've been wanting to have her as a guest.
