There is nothing worth living for unless it is worth dying for.

My grandmother lived a life devoted to Jesus, and today her talks have been made available

in their original form.

So you too can be built up through the insights and mysteries God revealed to her throughout

her ministry.

Now without further ado, here is Elizabeth Elliott.

The title of my talk today is the call to surrender.

When I was about 11 years old, I was putting my little sister to bed one night.

She was four years old.

And as was her custom, all of us were taught to say, to either sing or say those lovely

words of the children's prayer, Jesus, tender shepherd, hear me bless thy little child

tonight.

Through the darkness, bless thy little lamb tonight, through the darkness, be thou near

me, keep me safe till morning light.

And then we usually went on to bless mommy and daddy and Phil and David, Betty, et cetera,

et cetera.

Well, when Ginny got down to her brother Tom, she went through the list, and Tommy was

a year younger than Ginny.

He was three, she was four.

And she said, and Lord, please make Tommy always say, yes Ginny, you can have it.

Now I'm sure that she had not analyzed exactly what she was requiring of that child, but

it is a perfect illustration of asking a complete reversal of one's natural sense of values.
