and I'm here by myself because my great friend Matt Sittman is having dental work done this week,

which makes it very difficult to podcast. I'm a little anxious about doing this introduction because

Matt says that when I do the introductions by myself, I always sound really

weird and awkward and not at all how I normally sound on the podcast. Listeners, you can be the judge of

this. And in fact, I would appreciate it even if I do sound weird if you tell Matt that I sound

fine and normal and it's not a big deal so that this is not a problem for me in the future.

I have a great episode for you today, dear listeners. I was joined today by the artist and author

and activist Molly Crabapple, who most recently is the author of Here Where We Live is Our Country,

The Story of the Jewish Boond.

This is a book that I was looking forward to for actually several years.

Of course, there'll be links to buy it in the show notes.

But for those listeners who aren't familiar with it, the boon was a Jewish revolutionary

party that was founded in 1897 in the Tsarist Empire. It was secular, socialist, proudly Jewish,

and uncompromisingly anti-Zionist. It was founded by young Jewish Marxists who had the twin

goals of overthrowing the Tsar and creating democratic socialism in Russia.

There is so much in this book that is relevant to our political present. I think it especially spoke to me as a Jewish anti-Zionist and a socialist.

And I suspect those of you listeners who share those identities will also find this conversation

extremely inspiring. But it's also a really fascinating account of, you know, of the 20th

century in its biggest upheavals, including the two Russian revolutions, obviously World War II

and the Holocaust and the founding of the state of Israel. I say to Molly in this
