We're going to talk about the book which

had an incredible effect called The Brussels Effect, How the European Union Rules the World,

and the paperback edition, which has recently come out also, which also gives me an excuse to

talk to you about it. I mean, when the first book first came out, I must admit, I sort of held

back because a long line,

a long queue phone immediately if people wanted to talk to you. And the longer I waited, though,

the longer the line seemed to be. So I finally now have this moment to get a hold of you to talk

about the book. And my first question is rather, rather personal before we get into the detail

of some of the arguments you make in your book.

You say in the introduction that you actually first coined the phrase that Brussels effect back in 2012.

But the book obviously came out last year to enormous popularity.

Were you surprised by the reaction the book received when it first came out?
