Summary

Christ is the bridegroom and we the church are his bride. He wants to affect a union with us that is as intimate as a husband's and wife's. If we are to take in the new life that Jesus offers us, we must be transformed from within. New wine (God's life) can only be received by new wineskins.

Some say John the Baptist, with his austere style in life, might have been an Essen.

There were Pharisees in Jesus' time. These were official religious people,

keepers of the law. Their purpose was to circulate among the ordinary people and encourage

temple. They were explicitly religious types. You also found rabbis in the towns. These were

Well, and I think about Jesus was, he was none of these. He wasn't like the Essenes. In fact,
