And then I was thinking about those movies of the 30s, how delightful they are, how joyful they are, how much pleasure they've given me, and yet how totally based in fantasy they are.

And this movie and this love story was always meant to be an exploding of that fantasy.

You know, what can we love each other with all of the monstrous aspects of ourselves

included?

And so I like the idea of kind of bouncing my monster love affair off of a kind of Fred Astaire

Ginger Rogers kind of love affair.

In this episode, a murdered woman is brought back with a vengeance, and director Maggie Gyllenhaal's period monster drama, The Bride. Set in an alternate 1930s Chicago, the film follows Ida, a murdered young woman brought back to life to be the Monster Frankenstein's companion.

Ida's second chance sparks a whirlwind of romance, police interest, and radical social change.

In addition to The Bride,

for which she won the DGA's first-time feature film award

in 2021.
