Summary

Before Amazon’s hit series The Boys reaches its epic conclusion, we’re breaking down why this show deserves your attention! Joined by special guest Jeremy Skinner from the Jason & Jeremy Jawing About Justice League Podcast, we discuss what makes Homelander such a compelling (and terrifying) character, how The Boys and Karl Urban’s iconic smile have become more politically relevant than ever, and dive into full spoilers to share our bold predictions for how the series might end.

We have to talk about something that the boys on Amazon Prime does very well.

0:19.4

Jeremy, we're going to talk about genre shows, especially like the boys

0:22.5

today, but the boys is back for its final season. And I want to ask you, why does a show like

0:28.0

the boys, which is about superheroes and violence and all kinds of skeevy stuff, sort of help

0:35.0

us perceive the real world better than shows actually set in the real world.

0:40.5

What do you think is that special sauce as the boys have? Because I think a show like Battle

0:44.8

Star Galactica was very similar. A Battleser Galactica was on the air. It was very much like

0:48.5

seeing a robot version of the War on Terror. But what is that special sauce that the boys has?

0:55.6

Well, I personally think that, and I'm sure I'm maybe going to explain this poorly,

1:02.0

but I think the layer of something on top of a similar situation activates your empathy,

1:11.6

in a sense. Like you can look through the layer and be like, oh, that's me or that's us in a way that

1:18.9

sometimes, you know, we're surrounded by me and us all the rest of the time.

1:23.9

We don't necessarily see things as they are, but then when you get to look through

1:27.6

it through another lens, there's a real specific example from the boys, one of the most

1:34.0

recent episodes. Bring it out. That had that for me. Whenever we see the TikTok videos,

1:40.8

we see like a montage of TikTok. And I was like, this is what people would do. This is how people would be reacting to this. There would be, you know, a lip sync of homelander's, you know, airplane video type of, like that is how people would react to that. It would become like a trending sound. Yes. Yes. And then it's like, well, because we're already doing it.

2:01.2

Mm-hmm.

2:02.3

You know what I mean?

2:03.2

We live in that world. We live in that world.

2:04.4

We don't have these extraordinary circumstances and, you know, demigods and all of that

2:08.7

type of stuff.

2:09.4

But like, we're here already.
