Summary

What does it take to disqualify a man from ministry? Adultery? Emotional and spiritual abuse? Manipulation? According to cultural Christianity, none of these! If God’s Word is not the rule of faith and life, the moral compass is lost and anything goes! We’re talking about the “come-back” of Mark Driscoll and Tullian Tchividjian to the public life, and worse, to the pulpit after serious public scandals. The gang opens up the issues and answers some of the questions that many of us are asking. What are the qualifications of an office bearer? How seriously should the church and the office bearer take the standards laid out in the pastoral epistles? Are there warning signs one should watch for? Does repentance mean full restoration to ministry?Turn it on, turn it up, and let's see what they’ve got!We have a several copies of "Disciplines of a Godly Man" and "Disciplines of a Godly Woman" by Kent and Barbara Hughes that we are giving away courtesy of Crossway. 1:13.6

Tullian Chevigin, formerly of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Both of these men are back. Driscoll,

of course, is the pastor of Trinity Church in Phoenix, Arizona, and Chevigion is back on social media,

1:25.6

even preaching here and there.

1:29.0

And so Carl and Amy, it's really tough to leave the limelight, isn't it?

1:35.1

I mean, here we have two men who very publicly took very public falls, one out of just a

1:41.8

mountain of evidence of spiritual and emotional abuse of his church, staff

1:48.2

members, the whole Mars Hill megachurch complex collapsed under these allegations and scandals

1:55.9

of abusive and megalomaniacal behavior. And then, of course, Tully and Chevigin through several unfolding

2:02.8

revelations of adultery. So both of them took a nosedive, but they are back. What does that tell us?

2:11.5

Isn't America wonderful? It's the land of second, third, fourth, fifth, et cetera, et cetera, chances.

2:17.5

Yeah. It doesn't tell us anything good, et cetera, et cetera, chances. Yeah.

2:17.9

It doesn't tell us anything good, I think, about the discernment of certain sections of the American, conservative, Protestant, evangelical public, however you want to describe it.
