She had one older brother and was raised by her mother Valerie,

who was always known as Joe.

Nothing stands out about Jody's early years.

Like many kids her age, her time was spent between school and family, and she loved riding her bike and her many friends in the neighborhood.

Jody had an easy smile and loved animals and playing basketball.

Her favorite saying was, quote, love is like a hug, so hang on to it.

She was known for her big heart and generosity, which only seemed to grow as she got older.

After a family trip to Chicago, Jody told her parents that she wanted to become a hairdresser when she grew up.

When she was asked why, she told them that after seeing the homeless people in the area, she

realized that when people feel pretty, they also feel better about their lives.

Jody and her family could never have predicted how unpready her own future was going to turn

out to be.
