Chapters 21 to 24 24 In the previous chapters, several of the Sterling clan had been to visit Valency, urging her to come home,

with Valency flatly refusing in all cases. Soon after, she decided to head to a party one evening where Roaring

Abel was playing the fiddle. However, it was far more raucous than she'd imagined it,

and after escaping with Barney Snaith, he agreed to take her home. Trouble arose, however, as Barney's car ran out of gas, leaving them stranded together in the night waiting for help.

A situation, Banci was not too disappointed about.
