Chapters 12 to 15. In the previous chapter, Valency, after remaining mostly silent at the dinner table,

began to speak openly in her family's conversations, causing shock and surprise as to her changed attitude.

After her passionate and indignant defence of Barney Snaith,

a local reclusive man,

she felt heart pain coming on and decided to leave as composedly as she could. When she was gone, the confused

and flustered Sterling family agreed to make her see a doctor, assuming she must be unwell.

Now that we're caught up with the story so far, let's get ourselves ready for sleep. Start by taking a deep, relaxing breath and settle your body in whatever way feels most comfortable.

Valency hurried home through the faint blue twilight, hurried too fast, perhaps. The attack she had when she thankfully

reached the shelter of her own room was the worst yet. It was really very bad. She might die in one of those spells. It would be dreadful to die in such a pain.
