In the previous chapters, whilst Valency was in the midst of deep worry about her marriage

with Barney, she had an unexpected visitor in Dr. Redfern, a popular purveyor of household medicines.

It soon came out that this man was not only Barney's father, but also very wealthy,

and had come to rekindle his relationship with his son.

However, since Barney was out, Dr. Ed Fern stated he would return again tomorrow,

leaving Valency with a new determination as to what to be done next.

Now that we're caught up with the story so far, let's get ourselves ready for sleep.
