Chapter 7

Lettie.

I haven't heard from Jay, not since he made his offer to help me plot my revenge against Riley.

I'm wondering what he's cooking up.

If I'm being honest, I'm wondering what he's cooking up. If I'm being honest, I'm nervous about it. I don't want to do anything too drastic.

Just want to dish out a little payback that would make me feel better about my current situation.

Being grounded for six whole weeks just at the start of summer no less feels like a life sentence.

I'd never given the practice of putting people into isolation much thought until it was relevant to my life,

which is so ironic because we'd talk about that kind of narrow thinking in my climate crisis committee.

Until the fire is raging around your house,

or the floodwaters are rising,

or there's nothing in the well to drink,

climate change doesn't seem like such a big deal.

Then all of a sudden, bam, it sucks to be you.

And right now it sucks to be me.

Lonely, isolated, feeling sorry for myself, bored out of my mind, thinking about the plight of

prisoners for the first time in my life.

In a way, it feels like I've run into a metaphorical brick wall.

One minute, I'm full speed ahead, ending junior year on a high note.

I make one utterly absolutely benign wardrobe choice,
