Summary

Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in anticipation of a severe blizzard to impact the state and the following few days brought with it a historic winter storm that paralyzed the city of Buffalo, bringing four feet of snow, freezing temperatures and ultimately claiming over thirty lives so far. As the city works to recover from this disaster, most roads remain unusable, and many in Buffalo have been facing dangerous conditions without power or access to food. Fox Weather Correspondent Max Gorden is on the ground in Buffalo, New York, and joins to explain the devastating impact this winter storm has had on the city, how the blizzard caught many people in Buffalo off guard and unprepared, and how one severe weather event was able to cause travel advisories for 60 percent of Americans across the country. This past year saw an increased discussion of parental rights and with that came a lively debate surrounding the banning of books that students are reading in school. These ban requests have risen in popularity due to parent advocacy groups calling for stricter standards, while some educators are decrying the crackdown on certain literature as harmful censorship. In September 2022, during ‘Banned Book Week’ the Rundown spoke to an advocate on each side of the issue. Today on the Rundown, we look back at that conversation from September 21st with Moms For Liberty Co-Founder Tina Descovich and Director of The American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom Deborah Caldwell-Stone about the heightened focus on book banning this year. Plus, commentary by National Security Expert, Dr. Rebecca Grant. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
