I read a story recently about two students who were doing summer evangelistic work in a rural

community.

One hot humid day, they stopped their car in front of a farmhouse

and made their way up the path through a bunch of screaming kids and barking dogs. When they knocked

on the screen door, the woman at the house stopped her scrubbing over a tub and washboard. This was a long time ago.

She brushed back her hair, wiped the perspiration from her brow, and asked them what they wanted.

One of the students said, we'd like to tell you how to obtain eternal life.

The tired homemaker hesitated for a moment and then replied,

Thank you, but I don't think I could stand it.

And all of us have felt that way on some days.
