As Snow had put it, when he was born in Maine when he was growing up, he wanted to be Hank Williams. As he put it, he and Garnet are swamp Yankees. Poor, no money. Music was one thing in their family they did to make themselves happy. They even have a picture of the grandfather's first band in 1910. They weren't allowed to listen to rock music growing up. Their family's church burned copies of lover boy. But that soon ended. At one point they were living in Los Angeles, and there was a giant William Blake exhibit at the Huntington Library, which they checked out. A few months later, they had an opportunity to record, and they figured out they would be called the Blakes. They met up with Bob Husack, who was born in Seattle, Washington, and he met Garnet and Snow when they'd come down from Vancouver Island. Now they're based out of Seattle, Washington.
