Summary
We’re 8 episodes into series 2 of On The Mend… and what a journey it’s been so far!
It’s about time we looked back on some of our best moments. So today, Matt is reflecting on the lessons his recent guests have taught him. Unpicking the key messages that have stuck with him for weeks on end – and are sure to stick with you too.
We’re looking back on our chats with Geordie Queen Vicky Pattison, Alcohol-Free Advocate Andy Ramage, and Mental Health Pioneer Ruby Wax. Each had their own story to tell. From the fear of passing problems on to your kids, to understanding what ‘middle lane drinking’ is, to taking the stigma away from depression, there’s plenty for us to dive into.

My name's Matt Willis and today we're doing a solo episode. So we've been getting into these a bit recently, haven't we? We kind of, I think, this is going to be the third one that's out, maybe the third or fourth, I think. And yeah, I'm kind of getting a bit more comfortable with it, I think. I go through little kind of ways of doing things, you know, and kind of, I'm constantly changing everything, which is a nightmare for anybody I work with. But I'm trying to kind of make it the best way possible. So today I've just got bullet points, you know, which I'm going to talk about, because otherwise I ramble on for ages. But how's everyone doing? Hope you're well. Hope you good. How am I feeling today? I'm feeling pretty good. I'm a little bit stressed this morning, which I, you know, I'm not very good with time. You know, time management is an issue for me. And I thought I had all the time in the world this morning. I woke up a half five, you know, and I thought, right, okay, I'm on it. You know, woke up, trained, did all my stuff, you know, and then obviously ran out of time and was a bit late, you know, but that's, that's me. But I think we've been starting these podcasts with a gratitude list, |
| 1:11.7 | which is something which I really try to do every day. |
| 1:14.5 | And I haven't done today because I knew I was going to be doing it now. |
| 1:17.2 | We've talked about this before, but I just kind of sit down and think of three things |
| 1:20.3 | that I'm really grateful for today. |
| 1:22.3 | So I'm going to sound a little bit, I'm just going to say it, I've got a new ice bath and I'm really, really, really happy with it. |
| 1:32.0 | It's a posh one. It's by a company called Brass Monkey, no affiliation. And they're amazing. |
| 1:38.4 | It's like I had an ice bath. I loved it. This one is next level and it's really nice, and it's really nice and I love it and I look |
| 1:45.6 | forward to getting into it. Um, do I look forward to getting into it? No, I don't. I dread it, |
| 1:50.2 | but I still get in and, uh, and it's awesome. So I'm really loving that at the moment. I'm |
| 1:54.7 | really grateful for it and I'm grateful for the people there for getting it to me so quickly. |
| 2:09.1 | What else am I grateful for? |
| 2:11.8 | I've been spending a lot of time with my wife recently, |
| 2:16.5 | both working and leisurely. |
| 2:18.9 | And it's been great. |
| 2:20.1 | We just had an anniversary. |
| 2:25.2 | We've been married for 16 years, and it kind of, my gratitude list that morning was all about her. |
| 2:25.9 | And it's, you know, it's been 16 years. |
| 2:28.8 | And I'm really grateful for every year we've had, every kind of day we've had, |
| 2:33.7 | it kind of keeps getting better, you know, |
| 2:35.8 | and I feel like right now it kind of seems to be really, I don't know, just getting better and better. |
| 2:41.0 | And I think, you know, not going off topic too much, but that's a lot about, you know, I think |
