Why public service and why did you choose to run for mayor back in 2020?

Well, this did be up front, Bakari.

This is what I was born to do.

And Baltimore is the reason why I chose public service.

So I grew up in the Park Heights section of Baltimore City and northwest and northwest Baltimore. Most people know that. It's a place where every third Saturday in May, there's this horse race known as pregness, right? So imagine growing up in a neighborhood where your neighborhood is the center of the sports world for one Saturday a year and every other day the year you're not even seen as human.

That's what it was like for me.

So when you grow up like that,
