| 0:17.5 | Let me start with a pet peeve, and I don't know if it's a pet peeve of yours. |
| 0:21.1 | When teams get to the goal line and they run a shotgun, |
| 0:25.5 | what is wrong with just lining up over center and doing old-fashioned football of, |
| 0:31.7 | we're going to run the ball, we're going to play power football instead of, I don't know, |
| 0:56.1 | we want it to, we get style points or something with the shotgun at the goal line. I don't know if it bothers you, but it does me. Well, yeah, I did because I started. That was how you did it because you didn't. It used to be that 90% of the time you want to be under center because you're afraid of death that the center couldn't stab. The gunstap, he had to take his eyes off and moving around. |
| 1:19.0 | And now we flipped it. If you're under center, you're like, what's this crazy-ass old school football? These guys are playing. And Michigan did it to USC, much to my chagrin. It wasn't very good. But, Dan, I'll tell you a story. A handful of years ago, I went out to Las Vegas and was training a quarterback who had just signed a Division I scholarship and was getting ready to go play at a Division I school. |
| 1:23.2 | And it was the first time I trained him because I was training another guy who brought him along. |
| 1:26.0 | And so we get out there and warm up and I say, get under center. |
| 2:01.1 | We're going to do, we're going to run three-step hitches. The guy looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language to him. Coach, I don't know how to take a snap under center. Honest to guy, he'd never done it before, and he was a couple months away from walking on to a division one program as football player. Now listen, I know there's different ways to do it. to me, there's just more bad that can happen. It takes longer to get to the line of scrimmage. Those guys are driving in. I just don't understand why you don't have a package say, get the ball, get under center, play it. There's a lot less wrong that can happen under center than the gun, but they flipped it. If you're under center, you're an archaic and don't understand football these days. I guess that's the way it's supposed to be. I'm with you. Get under center, |
| 1:59.4 | secure the ball first, and you've got much more of a chance, and that guy's hit the line quicker than you are when you're in the gun. Takes too much time. All right. We'll get to the NFL, but let me touch on your alma mater as you did. |
| 2:01.7 | USC not closing the deal at Michigan. |
| 2:19.3 | And this felt like a welcome to the Big Ten moment. This is Michigan football. This is Big Ten football. Come on |
| 2:26.9 | into our conference. It's going to take you a while to play our brand of football. What did you make of |
| 2:32.4 | Michigan's philosophy and or USC's.? Well, they're probably not |
| 2:37.6 | going to be able to win many games against big 10 teams throwing for 35 yards, but they did against |
| 2:42.9 | the Trojans. What it told me in the start of that game, Dan, it was like, uh-oh, we need a little |
| 2:48.2 | more finesse pack 12 football. And then by the second half, they did a great great job as he did of adjusting. They really did. But that's going to be the test. 60, I mean, I know it sounds cliche, but 60 minutes because Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, that's how they're going to win. And Dan, when it's usually you got to throw 50 times and run it 15 times, you don't win a lot of those games, but you can run it 40 times, throw it 15 and throw for 100 yards and still win. |
| 3:14.6 | So if you're going to go one dimensional, that's the dimension if you can dominate it. |
