Will Jalen Hertz be the Eagles quarterback, which obviously means starting quarterback?

I like that we're easing into this with a nice, easy, Jalen Hertz topic that we've never talked about before. But this time, it does feel for the first time, guys, that this is becoming an unavoidable topic, right? The Eagles have not extended his contract. We realize he only has $22 million left and guaranteed money after the season. Very easy to move on if they want to. Brand new offense here. And guys, before we move forward, I think we need to look back. I actually think because of the offensive coordinator and the AJ Brown stuff, we haven't unpacked how poor Jalen Hertz played last season. He did. Success rate 30th, completion percentage 21st,

yards per attempt 20th, QBR 22nd. Jalen Hertz was a bottom half of the league quarterback

last year. That's the truth. The Eagles are switching the offense to try to make it better.

And this new offense, guys, if you listen to Sean Mannion last week, he talked about timing and

rhythm and anticipation.

That's not the kind of quarterback Jalen Hertz is. Jailen Hertz has been successful, but he doesn't play the kind of football that Sean Mannion talked about last week. So I'm very skeptical. Jainle Harts will play well in this new offense. And if he doesn't, guys, this isn't a case of should the Eagles just keep Jalen Hertz. We are reaching a pivot point where he's going to want to get paid.

Quarterbacks that have been as successful as Jalen do not play on contracts next year

that would leave him with so little guaranteed money.

So the way I decided to frame this is this is not is Jailen Hertz their quarterback next year.

It's one of two things.

He's either gone or he has a new, huge contract. And based on the new offense, based on the way he played last year,

based on his running ability, which has waned, I don't believe Jailen Hertz is going to play well enough

in this new offence to garner a new $250 million contract. It just doesn't make any sense to me

to pay a quarterback bumping up against his 30s,

who showed some decline last year, that kind of contract.

The Eagles have to pay, Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeGine.

This roster, guys, is set up more to have a quarterback on a rookie deal next year,

which, by the way, it might be the best quarterback class to come out in a long time. And Howie Roseman reportedly is pursuing picks in next year's draft. Jalen Hertz is the quarterback this year. If he plays great, he'll be the quarterback for years beyond. I doubt that. I think it comes to a head. And I think this is the last year Jalen Hertz is the quarterback because it just doesn't make sense to me that Howie Roseman is going

to pay him $60 to $65 million into his early 30s. He's the quarterback now. I doubt he's the
