So I haven't talked much about my daughter who's experiencing her first semester of college.

She's doing well, you know. Some days are better than others. Last night she facetimed me, and she was sitting under, you know how dorm rooms have, like it's a bunk bed, and then there's space underneath. Yes. So, um. You mean for like a desk or something like that? Yeah. Like she has that they have, and her, she and a roommate under one of the beds. They have like a mini fridge and a little coffee maker and all. Right. So, um, I see that I've got a FaceTime call coming in and I tap it. And my daughter is facetiming me from underneath the bed. So I'm looking up at her face and bedsprings the underside of the bunk bed. And she's like,

hello, mother. I'm wearing the same pajamas for the third day in a row. And the only thing I'm eating is cereal. And my head is going to explode because I'm so stressed out. And I was like, oh,

honey, you know what? That's just college and you're doing great. And,

you know, give her a little pep talk. So I get off the phone with her and she texts me that she's, you know, telling me when she's coming home for Thanksgiving break. And then there's a list of things that she would like to do when she gets home. She wants to get her hair cut. Right. And she wants to go to the dentist and all this other stuff.

And is that possible to do?

So I replied back, absolutely, but you're an adult now and you need to schedule all that

stuff and I'll help you get to it.

But I do not have room in my brain to take on one more person's needs. You can schedule your own

haircut. Right. And also, you know, because you have to go through this too, when your kid or your

spouse or whoever, your partner asks you to schedule something for them, it's not as simple as you

calling up and saying, hey, can we get her in for a haircut on such and such date? No, because it has to be in a very specific window of time. Well, they may only have so many openings. And you, well, no, she can't come at 2 o'clock. Do you have anything at 4? Yeah. All right, what about 5? No. How about noon? Like, what am I? Miss Jane Hathaway? No. So I said, you need to schedule all of that stuff for yourself. I love you. I know you can do it. So then I get a text this morning today telling me that she has succeeded in scheduling all of these things. And so I replied back, very adulty.

I'm very pleased. Doesn't that feel good? And she said, yes, it does. And let me read her,

I'm going to read her exact words. Yes, it does. And I think this is a good time in my life to start

listening to Hooty and the Blowfish now that I'm an adult.

And I thought about it.

And I was like, you know, yeah.

That is so snarky. It is so snarky, but that is when you develop a real appreciation for Hootie and the Blowfish.
